Description

Berry Citrus Red Sangria “Island Sunset”

Notes

Let’s talk sangria, Caribbean style. This bold red sangria gets a Floribbean remix with guava nectar, spiced rum, and a mix of summer berries. It’s juicy, smooth, and perfect for backyard cookouts, family gatherings, or just when you want a drink that feels like the islands in a glass.
This drink matters because it’s more than just wine with fruit. Sangria is about flavor, balance, and refreshment, and the Caribbean twist makes it vibrant, tropical, and fun. By adding spiced rum and guava, you get that island punch without losing the classic sangria soul.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle red wine (Spanish Tempranillo or Merlot)
  • ½ cup spiced rum
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • ¼ cup guava nectar (or guava syrup)
  • ¼ cup brown sugar syrup (or simple syrup)
  • 1 cup mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
  • 1 blood orange, sliced
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • Club soda (for topping)
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs for garnish

Ingredient Notes & Substitutions

• Red wine: Use a fruity, medium-bodied wine—Cabernet, Merlot, or Grenache all work.
• Spiced rum: Adds warmth and depth; if unavailable, dark rum can substitute.
• Guava nectar: Sweet tropical flavor; mango or passion fruit juice can work in a pinch.
• Fruit: Fresh or frozen pineapple, berries, oranges, lemons—frozen fruit doubles as ice.
• Club soda: For a light effervescence; sparkling water works too.
• Brown sugar simple syrup: Adds sweetness; adjust based on your wine and fruit sweetness.

Directions

  1. In a pitcher, mix red wine, spiced rum, orange juice, guava nectar, and syrup.
  2. Add berries, blood orange, and lemon slices. Let flavors meld for 2–4 hours.
  3. Serve over ice, top with club soda, and garnish with rosemary.

Chef Winston’s Tips

• Let the sangria sit for at least 2 hours in the fridge—this allows flavors to marry.
• Use frozen fruit as natural ice cubes to chill without diluting the drink.
• Scoop fruit into the glass before pouring the liquid—every sip gets some of the tropical goodness.
• Finish with a splash of club soda for effervescence and a fresh sprig of rosemary for aroma.
• Taste as you go—adjust sweetness or citrus to match your preference.
This one’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser—smooth, tropical, and bold
